The Human Growth Hormone, or HGH, has been the subject of recent news articles. This hormone’s purpose is to promote and stimulate cell growth, reproduction and regeneration, and it is all thanks to DNA technology. This drug must be prescribed by a licensed physician. HGH is usually utilized for treating children with growth diseases and disorders. However, this complex hormone has also been used by those who participate in professional sports.

When HGH Functions at Normal Levels
If HGH functions at normal levels in the body, there is no need to take a synthetic version. Natural HGH is referred to as an anabolic. The main purpose of this hormone is to assist in height growth during childhood. In addition to height, this growth hormone can effect muscle and bone strength, the increase of muscle mass, boosts in calcium retention, the promotion of lipolysis, internal organ growth and immune system stimulation.
In some people, the body makes too much of the growth hormone. When this happens, a pituitary tumor can result. This benign tumor will slowly grow, and as it grows, the tumor will produce more of the growth hormone. Once the tumor becomes sizeable, it may prompt headaches, thickened bones in the jaw, fingers and toes, impaired vision, type 2 diabetes and other ailments. Usually, a surgeon is needed to remove the tumor.
And in other instances, the body does not produce an adequate level of the growth hormone. The side effects of a growth hormone deficiency will vary according to the time of onset. If it happens during childhood, the child will suffer from growth failure and a short stature due to a genetic disease or congenital malformation. If the deficiency occurs during adulthood, typically because of lesions or structural trauma, the individual may be afflicted with a drop in vitality, decreased muscle mass and obesity.
